Ms. Jodi is from Canada. She has a Bachelor in the Arts in English Literature and Theatre. She has been teaching English to students in Korea and Vietnam for over ten years. Ms. Jodi focuses on academic writing in her classes, to help students learn the fine art of formal essay writing. Ms. Jodi believes that you can do some serious learning while still having a lot of fun. 

Ms. Jodi's classes use the highly-regarded books from Cengage/National Geographic. In class, all four elements of language learning - speaking, reading, writing, and listening - are learned. Ms. Jodi uses the books to create essay writing topics. Ms. Jodi teaches writing skills that are easily transferable to any class. Students learn how to brainstorm, plan, write, and edit their work. 

Students will regularly be given essays to write for homework. Their writing homework will be thoroughly corrected and commented on. Students will be asked to respond to those corrections and comments as part of the writing homework, to ensure retention and growth of new skills. Some of the books used, such as Life, also have supplementary workbooks. Pages from these books will also be assigned as homework. For books that do not have supplementary workbooks, such as Reading Explorer, students will be given pages from the book to complete, as well as additional writing and reading homework.

Ms. Jodi now has a TOEFL course available. This is not a “cram course” for students about to take the TOEFL test. This is a course to familiarise students in advance with the level of the reading material, the test structure, question types, essay formats, and other strategies and skills such as note-taking, paraphrasing, vocabulary, and managing stress when speaking. Students will have to be very disciplined, as homework must be timed and there is independent study.
